A gálán több szabályt is hoztak, hogy ne nyúljon monstre ünnepéllyé a díjátadó, többek közt, hogy nem egészen egy perc állt minden díjazottnak a beszédre. A nyitóbeszédet a Recording Academy vezérigazgatója, Harcey Mason Jr. és a kuratórium elnöke, Tammy Hurt tartotta. Tammy a zenekarba is beült dobolni, hogy a nem túl nagy számú női zenészek jelenlétét, mely leginkább a vokálra és a vonósokra terjedt ki, gyarapítsa a formációban.

A GRAMMY szavazóbizottságát több ezer jelentkező közül választották ki szakértelmük, készségeik és sokszínű hátterük alapján.

Idén is voltak érdekes választások, mint az 5 jelölést kapó (18-szoros Grammy-nyertes) Béla Fleck végül csak egy, a Best Jazz Instrumental Album kategóriában győzedelmeskedett a Chick Coreával közösen jegyzett, Remembrance című lemezzel. Az amerikai bendzsós, Béla Fleck nem magyar zenész, hanem szülei a Bartók Béla iránti tiszteletből adták ezt a keresztnevet neki. A díjátadón megjelent a fia, Juno, akiről egyik kompozícióját nevezte el, valamint Corea lánya, Liana.

A tavaly tavasszal a budapesti közönséget elkápráztató Samara Joy a két jelölésből egyből mindkettőt megnyerte: Best Jazz Vocal Album és Best Jazz Performance kategóriákban.

A Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album kategóriában egy nálunk kevésbé ismert big band nyert, az izraeli, de az USA-ban élő Dan Pugach dobos zenekara, az album címe pedig egy pitbull kutyájának a nevét tartalmazza: Bianca Reimagined.

Taylor Eigsti olyan zenészeket utasított maga mögé a Best Contemporary Instrumental Album kategóriában, mint Bill Frisell, Mark Guiliana vagy Julian Lage, ám a Plot Armor albumon játszik, méghozzá fantasztikusan a zeneszerzőtárs Julian Lage, ahogy a zongorista legtöbb albumán, valamint még Ben Wendel, Terence Blanchard, Kendrick Scott is közreműködik. Eigsti járt már Budapesten 2020-ban Kendrick Scottal. Talán nemsokára a saját zenekarával is hallhatjuk a friss Grammy-díjas zongoristát.

Egy megható dokumentumfilm, az American Symphony is dupla díjat nyert, a Best Song Written For Visual Media és a Best Music Film kategóriákban, ami az ötszörös Grammy nyertes Jon Batiste és felesége megpróbáltatásairól szól, miután a sikeres zenész feleségénél leukémiát diagnosztizálnak.

Végül van még egy kiadvány, amely dupla Grammyt nyert, a Centennial – King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band, mely a Best Album Notes és a Best Historical Album kategóriákban. Ez a lemez King Oliver bandájának 1923-as felvételeit tartalmazza remasterelve 4 CD-n és 2 LP-n, amelyhez 80 oldalas könyv is tartozik, amiben sok érdekes történetet lehet olvasni.
